ISO 9000 is a series of international standards providing quality systems for companies, and is being used to provide a universal framework to companies for establishing quality assurance system in their organizations. ISO 9000 certificate on any product gives a certain level of assurance of quality to its customers. This not only attracts new customers in the international markets but also will be a mandatory requirement for export to the European Union and few Middle Eastern states very soon, and the rest of the world will follow.

These standards do not impose anything like global standard on all companies but are generic in nature and applicable to all industries. They let an organization define what is quality and how an organisation is required to achieve it. It demands that the standards, once developed and adopted, are applied consistently.
